The AS Cast

Because Angel Sanctuary has so many characters, it would be very hard for me to go into depth for them all. So I will only do bios on the main and most crucial characters. The best way to find out about all characters involved is to head over to Wikipedia and search 'Angel Sanctuary'.

Setsuna Mudou

Setsuna is a teenager who likes to be rebellious (due to the influence of Kira). He gets into fights often with other students from his school and he has the tendency to speak whatever comes into his mind (often causing more conflict). He and his sister Sara were separated when their parents divorced years ago and he developes incestuous feelings for her. Despite his hot-headed personality, Setsuna is very loving and honest and he devotes himself entirely to Sara and his friends. [spoiler]Setsuna is the reincarnation of the organic angel Alexiel, who revolted against God and had her soul sent down to live on Earth where she lives countless lives and dies tragically in each one. [/spoiler]

Sara Mudou

Sara is Setsuna's sister from whom he was separated years ago. She attends a different school to Setsuna and lives with her mother in a different house. Sara is just an ordinary teenage girl with a twist - she loves her brother. Through the course of AS she is forever getting into trouble and being taken away from different people. [spoiler]Sara is in fact the reincarnation of the elemental angel Gibril and later on the series takes her original form.[/spoiler]

Sakuya Kira

Kira is Setsuna's best friend and they have known eachother since middle school. He is always offering Setsuna help and advice and he is the only one who accepts Setsuna whilst others disown him due to their belief that his feelings for his sister are 'wrong'. Kira is the town 'bad-boy' and he is normally out partying, drinking, smoking or 'hanging out' with women (go figure). [spoiler]Kira is actually a demon (to be more exact, the soul of Lucifer trapped within a holy sword known as Nanatsusaya) who takes over the real Sakuya Kira's body when he is involved in a car accident (killing his mother) and near to death. The real Sakuya is actually 7 years old and when the demon takes over, he requests that he reads a lot of books and makes his father hate him, so that when he dies, his father won't have to grieve again. Kira has a scar on his chest from when blood from the inorganic angel Rociel splashes him and this scar makes him immortal. [/spoiler]

Kurai

The 14th princess of Gehenna (hell) and part of a people known as the 'Evils'. She is a true dragonmaster and only she may summon the 3 dragons with the power of her earring. She admires and loves Alexiel because of the kindness she showed her in the past after Kurai's entire kingdom and family was destroyed by the angels. Kurai has the tendency to be a tomboy and is the first to believe that Setsuna is the reincarnation of Alexiel. As a result, Kurai is forever harrasing Setsuna in an ettempt to awaken Alexiel. Kurai is often seen with her cousin, Arachne, who was reunited with her after the demise of their kingdom. [spoiler]Later on in the series, Kurai falls in love with Setsuna and attempts to seduce him with the help of the Mat Hatter.[/spoiler]

Arachne

Otherwise known as 'Arakune' depending on how the Japanese is translated. Arachne is Kurai's cousin and was reunited with her after the demise of their kingdom (they both presumed eachother dead). He was born a man but has the heart of a woman and so he tends to dress in women's clothes. S/he and Kurai are nearly always together and they are constantly arguing with eachother. According to Yuki, this is prove of how close they are. [spoiler]Later on in the series we discover that Arachne is in fact Kurai's brother posing as her cousin because he was not chosen to be the dragonmaster. Because of this, he betrays Kurai and steals her earring, only to realise that he could never be worthy of the power. To make up for it, he sacrafice's himself as Lucifer's 999th bride in place of Kurai herself.[/spoiler]

Yue Katou

Katou doesn't make an appearance until the second volume of Angel Sanctuary. He is your average, teenage druggie. He is seen in the beginning carelessly accepting drugs from strangers and we see that this obviously causes him problems. Katou is actually quite a close friend of Kira, and had a very bad past due to family issues. Beause of this, he feels that Kira is the only one who can be trusted. Due to the trouble with his family, Katou forever gets himself into trouble (drugs being one of the factors for this trouble). [spoiler]Katou dies very early in the manga, but is reunited with Setsuna when he travels into Hades to retrieve Sara's soul (after she dies). Katou is revived by Setsuna when he feeds him one of his angel wing feathers and Katou is then given the task of leading Setsuna to Sara's soul. However, both boys are tricked and only manage to get out of Hades with Setsuna losing control over his body and Katou also dying completely. Fortunately the elemental angel Uriel takes pity on Katou and makes another body for him out of plants with his powers. Setsuna and Katou become closer to eachother after this.[/spoiler]

Rosiel/Rociel

Rosiel (or rociel depending on the translation) is the inorganic angel. He is Alexiel's twin and throughout the manga is forever attempting to stop Setsuna and his comrades. Rosiel is cold and kills without hesitation. [spoiler]This persona is due to Rosiel's lack of sanity. Before he turned out like he did, he asked Alexiel to kill him. However, Alexiel did not succeed and only managed to get a small splash of blood on her sword (this is how Kira becomes immortal and has a scar on each body he possesses). Rosiel is responsible for Kira's death and the rebirth of Lucifer.[/spoiler]

Alexiel

Alexiel is the organic angel, and Rosiel's twin. She was caught when she rebelled against God and had her body sealed in an angel crystal and her soul sent down to Earth to live countless lives that ended in tragedy. She is finally reincarnated as Setsuna but remains hidden until various parts in the manga where she is forced to resurface and take action. [spoiler]Alexiel actually loved God, but God never loved her back and favoured Rosiel. This is why she rebelled (aswell as for other reasons). [/spoiler]
